Election Day 2008 Project
There are days in a teacher's life that you cannot believe you get to be a part of, days that only happen once in history and that day was Nov. 4th, 2008 for me. McCain/Obama was one of the longest, costliest, and contentious election cycles in recent memory. In either outcome history would be made. The interest level of students was beyond high, they were ready to shred the latest videos, speeches, news releases and rumors out of the election news converage every day. When I began the year of teaching, it had not really occurred to me that election day was a vacation day in Philadelphia. As the day approached, I realized that allowing the day to pass without challenging students to capture a moment from the day would be a mistake. It was then that the plan was hatched!
SLA students ventured out into their communities and local polling places in Philly to document the urban voting picture, and publish the story by midnight on November 4th. This was not an exercise in polished digital video, this was about on the street reporting. Enjoy!
