Using GCast with a Class

Page history last edited by Diana 8 mos ago

Hat tip to Hall Davidson for demonstrating gcast as a lovely tool... oh, so long ago in Flagstaff.

Using Gcast with a large group of people is really quite easy.  You need to first set up a channel and then configure it with the necessary parameters.

This is my set up. (not that it is all that special, but figured having a picture may help to get the function of it all)

I have a few channels that I use to have students call into, you can choose which one you would like to have at the 'main' one for your account. Here is the account setup screen to record by phone:

(blacked out my PIN for the demo of it)

Then I reworked the directions for recording by phone to look like this when I gave out an assignment:

Please watch at least 30 minutes of the State of the Union address tonight. After you have viewed, please leave a 1-2 minute response to the issues discussed as a part of the address. Which of Obama's ideas/initiatives do you feel were most likely to assist the country? Which of Obama's ideas/initiatives do you feel are least likely to assist the country? Using the direction below, record your message.

  1. Call toll-free anytime at 1-888-65-GCAST (888-654-2278).
  2. Enter the 10 digit phone number 9287795847
  3. Enter the PIN - ####

  4. Record your message by identifying yourself with at least your first name at the beginning of the message. Please use language that exhibits your academic language and not slang. Then...
Save and Publish it instantly to your primary podcast channel by hitting # at the end of the message and # again to publish.

DO NOT FORGET TO HIT # at the end... it will not save.
